Mistakes are a fact of life but that doesn’t have to include home decorating. Knowing what things to avoid can save you both time and money on your project. Here are six decorating mistakes that everyone needs to avoid if they want to create a functional room.
There are people who would tell advise you that your design is amiss somewhere. The following are the top six mistakes that people commit:
1. Accessory overload. One of the problems that people have is because of a misconception that when decorating their house, they should fill every inch of space that they have. The opposite is actually recommended. Make sure that you leave some breathing space in your room. Too much accessories, no matter how wonderful or expensive they are, would only make the room look cluttered. Too many accessories are also very impractical since it would become difficult to move around with little space left.
2. Throw pillows may be cute but can also be annoying. Who would want to sit in a chair that is filled with pillows? Surely it is not very inviting and comfortable to sit in a couch that is almost covered with throw pillows. Also, in order to make room, what happens is that these throw pillows are displaced every now and then. It is very tiring not to mention irritating.
3. Be consistent with the size of your room. If you think you have a small room to decorate then common sense will tell you that you should not be using very large furniture. If you are using large furniture to divide a large room into smaller rooms then it is okay. Otherwise, compliment the size of you furniture to the size of room you have. Also, if your furniture comes in one set, do not force them all in your small room. Just choose one or two pieces and use the others in another room. The idea is to maximize space as much as possible.
4. The wrong paint color. Avoid darker paint hues for a small room. Your space feels even more cramped when you paint with dark colors. On the opposite side of the coin, keep in mind, large rooms can seem like a cavern with light colors on the walls. Choose a color that brings about the desired effect for your room. Painting with seasonal colors will see you repainting in no time. Accessorize for a seasonal feel but skip painting for it.
Avoiding mistakes is better than making them in the first place as far as decorating is concerned. If any of these ideas have been on your mind, banish them right away in favor of better suggestions.
