Celebrations aplenty in Asia, South East Asia looks to have the selection of the bunch. As the name advises Thai Lanterns are from Thailand and are nowadays hitting a far fuller audience as they gain popularity at UK events.
One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. November is when this occurs if your waiting on a Western calendar. Loy Krathong is what you will hear it referred to if you chance to be in some other piece of Thailand.
Many customs are watched during this festival by the Thai masses.. My precious activity is the liberating of ‘Thai Lanterns’ or ‘Khom Loy’. Watching the Lanterns enlighten the nightsky is a really impressive vision to behold. It is believed that as the lanterns go away into th sky so too do your troubles.. A happy and fulfilled life is said to be described by the lanterns flame leading in the dark.
The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are fabricated from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 min and the Lanterns are well-known to reach up of 1200 ft!
There has been a rise in the popularity (excuse the pun) and it’s not expected to stop any time soon.
