Laxton is a small village in Nottinghamshire, dating back to the Norman Conquest.
These days visitors can still see the the site of the old castle at the northern edge of the village, and see the best preserved motte and bailey castle in Nottinghamshire.
One can also view the pleasant, and pleasant, village church that dates back from 1190 and is still in use today.
Yet, what makes the village of Laxton truly unusual is its continuation of the medieval farming system.
Laxton is the only open farming system in England and one can meander the village yourself or take a tour with a local, that we will happily organise for you.
There is a visitor’s cente in the centre of Laxton with lots more information about Laxton and its history.
At the heart of the village is the Dovecote Inn where you can discover superb value, local food and ale, in addition to agreeable locals who will gladly tell you a tale or two.
The Goat House is in the village and dates back nearly 200 years.
Having recently been refurbished to a very high standard, we give excellent value b and b with a double bedroom, one twin bedroom and one family sized bathroom. For more information see www.the-goathouse.com.
