The California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC) board is replacing the original CCRE and three exams (national) with one and will make it available next year.
For eight years or so, people that wanted to become Certified Interior Designers in California have been required to take and pass the CQRID, the NCIDQ, or the two-part NKBA, as well as the supplemental California Codes and Regulations Examination (CCRE). Just as recently as the late 1990s, there was only one examination that was accepted and recognized. These tests were over and above the education and experience necessities laid out in Section 5800 of the Business & Professions Code.
The purpose for this change in examinations is to bring the California certification examination in line with Section 139 of the California Business and Professions Code and to make it available to those meeting the guidelines within the three categories of education and experience under the law, as well as to those with “experience only”.
Do you want to become a Certified Interior Designer? To do so, pass an examination and meet set requirements. The CCIDC will honor the current national examinations, by providing the current CCRE for an extended time frame for those who wish to take it.
